Nathan Lane has had a celebrated career on stage, film and television spanning over forty years.
He has performed in 23 Broadway shows and has received six Tony award nominations and won three awards for his work as Pseudolus in the 1996 revival of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Max Bialystock in The Producers, and Roy Cohn in the acclaimed 2018 revival of Angels in America.
He has also received six Drama Desk awards, six Outer Critics Circle awards, two Obies, the Lucille Lortel award, the Drama League Distinguished Performance award, the Eugene O’Neill Monte Cristo award, the Theater World John Willis Lifetime Achievement award and the Olivier award in London. In 2010 the New York Times described Lane as “the greatest stage entertainer of the decade”.
In television he has received six Primetime Emmy nominations, two Daytime Emmy awards, and the People’s Choice award.
He has guest starred on numerous shows and had recurring roles on The Good Wife as Clarke Hayden, Modern Family as Pepper Saltzman, American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. as F. Lee Bailey, and starred in Penny Dreadful: City of Angels on Showtime as Detective Lewis Michener.
He will soon be seen in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building starring Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez and HBO’s The Gilded Age written by Julian Fellowes.
He has appeared in over thirty films including Ironweed, Frankie and Johnny, The Birdcage, The Lion King, Mouse Hunt, Stuart Little, Nicholas Nickleby, The Producers, Swing Vote, Mirror, Mirror, and Carrie Pilby.
He has received two Golden Globe nominations, a Screen Actors Guild award, an American Comedy award, the National Board of Review Ensemble award, and the Sir Peter Ustinov Comedy award from the Banff Media Festival.
He has just completed filming Disappointment Boulevard written and directed by Ari Aster and starring Joaquin Phoenix.
In 2006 he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and in 2010 he was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame.
He and his husband, Devlin Elliott, are also the authors of the children’s books, Naughty Mabel and Naughty Mabel Sees It All.
