Maria Bacardi – Duele Album premiere in East Hampton a Benefit Concert in support of Project MOST

Straight from their sold out Joe’s Pub concert! In their newly released album of neo-boleros, DUELE (It Hurts), Maria Bacardi, Grammy Award-winner David Oquendo, and Edgaro Gonzalez have fused classic romantic Cuban boleros of the early to the mid-20th century with up-swing contemporary rhythms and grooves. Accompanied by a powerhouse 10-piece acoustic band, Maria Bacardí is one of the exceptional singers of “Bolero Feelin”. She is expressive and provocative; the type of singer the original Bolero composers would have dreamed of interpreting their heart-wrenching romantic ballads.

Hamptons International Film Festival presents SummerDocs Hosted by Alec Baldwin: Circus of Books

Alec Baldwin leads conversations with filmmakers and guests, presenting new and groundbreaking documentary films and thought-provoking stories to the East End.

For over 35 years, the gay porn shop, Circus of Books, served as the epicenter for LGBT life and culture in Los Angeles. Unbeknownst to many in the community it served, the store was cultivated and cared for by its owners, Karen and Barry Mason: a straight couple with three children. CIRCUS OF BOOKS is an intimate portrait of the Masons and their journey to become one of the biggest distributors of hardcore gay porn in the United States. Their story unfolds through the lens of their daughter, filmmaker and artist Rachel Mason.

Hamptons International Film Festival presents NOW SHOWING: Before You Know It

Now Showing brings acclaimed first-run art house, independent, and world cinema films currently in theaters to the East End.

Stage manager Rachel Gurner still lives in her childhood apartment—along with her off-kilter actress sister, Jackie; eccentric playwright father Mel; and deadpan preteen niece Dodge—above the tiny theatre they own and operate. Level-headed and turtleneck-wearing Rachel is the only thing standing between her family and utter chaos. Then, in the wake of a sudden family tragedy, Rachel and Jackie learn their presumed-deceased mother is actually alive and thriving as a soap-opera star. Now the sisters’ already-precarious balance turns upside down, and Rachel must figure out how to liberate herself from this surreal imbroglio.

“A refreshing comedy… A noteworthy work from an upcoming dynamic duo, co-writers Hannah Pearl Utt and Jen Tullock, who have a chemistry that you want to see in more films, especially if they’re like Before You Know It.” –RogerEbert.com

“Engrossing and entertaining… A strong debut that pushes the boundaries of what movies made from the female gaze can mean to audiences of all kinds.” – The Hollywood Reporter”A low-key charmer that promises great things from the pair.” –Indiewire

“A surefooted debut that promises writing partners Utt and Tullock, who have previously collaborated on their web series “Disengaged” and the Sundance short “Partners,” are as dramatically competent as they are sweetly sardonic. If there’s any justice in the world of festivals, this will open a lot of doors for its creators, who have eccentric chops worthy of a place among indie comedy greats like Noël Wells, Jenny Slate, and Natasha Lyonne.” –The Playlist

Re-Thinking Modern Art: A Preview of the Museum’s New Collection Galleries

At the Museum of Modern Art’s founding in 1929, its director Alfred H. Barr, Jr. envisioned it as a laboratory: a site of interdisciplinary connection and curatorial experimentation. Looking to Barr and to the museum’s evolution in the ninety years since then, MoMA will open its newly-expanded campus on October 21, 2019, increasing not only its gallery spaces but also the creative potential within them. Taking into consideration today’s immense pool of knowledge on art and artists worldwide, how do we continue to build and present a contemporary collection of modern art? Ann Temkin will take us on a private, behind-the-scenes tour of the galleries and discuss how the collection will be reinterpreted.

Ann Temkin has been the Marie-Joseé and Henry Kravis Chief Curator of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art since 2008. Her focus has been on the acquisitions program, and on reimagining the permanent collection galleries.

Broken Bone Bathtub: An immersive theater project by Siobhan O’Loughlin

Beginning its global journey in Tokyo in 2015, Broken Bone Bathtub is an immersive happening taking place inside a bathtub. After a serious bike accident, a young woman musters up the courage to ask for help and shares her story, exploring themes of trauma, suffering, human generosity, vulnerability, and connection. The audience takes on the role of Siobhan’s close friends; not only in listening but sharing in their experiences, and assisting the artist in the actual ritual of taking a bath.
